Sometimes you listen to a song and as soon as it starts playing, you know it is going to be one of your favorites. This is exactly what happened to me when a friend introduced me to a song called “Home”, by a brilliant band named “Edward Sharpe and the magnetic zeros”.
After the lead singer Alex Ebert broke up with his girlfriend, he moved in with his life long friend Raymond Kellen, and started a 12-step addiction program. During this time Alex started working on a book about a messianic figure named Edward Sharpe, who was sent to earth to heal and save mankind, but kept getting distracted by girls and his inability to not fall in love with them. Alex later met singer Jade Castrinos outside a café in downtown LA and thank goodness he did.
One of the things I love so much about this band is their energy. Watching them perform on Letterman brings me genuine joy every time I see it. They are dancing and singing with such tremendous passion, and they look so happy to be doing it. There is something so attractive to a music fan about a band that looks as passionate about playing music now, as they did when they were just starting out.
Despite being featured on many popular TV shows, such as “Raising hope” and NBC’s “Community, they still seem to be flying under the radar for a lot of people, which is a real shame. With this kind of music being made so popular at the moment by bands like Mumford and sons, I can see these guys doing very well indeed. For me this is the perfect example, of how much good music is out there that doesn’t get the recognition it deserves.
I hope you enjoy this, and please do share the video with your friends; these guys produce music that deserves to be heard.
